What is Tarion and Why Should Your Builder be Registered?

What is Tarion?

Tarion has provided new home warranty protection to more than two million homes in Ontario. Every new home and condominium unit purchased in Ontario is covered by a new home warranty.

Why have Tarion?

Having Tarion warranty in your home gives you protection and coverage against potential structural defects. These defects could be caused by human error or by the material used during construction. Having Tarion warranty gives new home buyers and home owners peace of mind by ensuring that their big life investment is protected.

How to become a Tarion Registered Builder and/or Vendor?

Becoming Tarion registered requires financial, educational and time commitments. Our team successfully wrote exams to complete 7 Core Competencies in the following fields:

  4. Legal Issues in Housing
  5. Building Codes in Ontario

What is the difference between a Vendor and Builder?

At Integricon we are both a Tarion registered builder and vendor.

A builder is defined as someone who undertakes the performance of all the work and the supply of all the material necessary to construct a completed home whether for the purpose of sale by the person or under a contract with a vendor or owner.

A vendor is defined as someone who sells on their own behalf a home (not previously occupied) to an owner. This includes a builder who constructs a home under a contract with the owner.

Remember only Tarion registered builders are legally permitted to build new homes or condominiums in Ontario. So, before you hire a builder to construct your home, make sure that they are registered with Tarion!
